Hello my name is Matt Peters and I want to introduce myself. In this short bio I want to share some background information, give a more detailed account of what this website/blog is going to be about, and try to answer those 3 questions above in the process.
Let’s talk history for a little bit. I was born in SLC, Utah and lived in Layton, Utah till I was about 12 years old and then the family was moved to Green River, WY. I grew up in the late 80’s and early 90’s. This was a great time to grow up and begin a life of exploring. Being from a small town and small state made that experience even better. The freedom we had as children was astounding by todays standards. Having all of that freedom helped to ignite a flame in me that has continued to grow as I have fed it over the years. Growing up I knew I wanted to travel, I wanted to explore the world to see all that it offered. I would watch Nature and National Geographic on tv- awed by the spectacles that are on this planet. I would spend hours reading National Geographic in wonder about all these amazing far off places that I would one day love to see, feel, and experience. I was fortunate enough as a kid to be able to have some good trips with my family and with friends families. We made trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas, NV., Great Falls, MT., Yellowstone, N.P., Boise, ID., Mesa Verde, Co., and Albuquerque, NM. Each place imparted on me a renewed sense of discovery and awe.
My first true introduction to long, sometimes crazy, road trip traveling- and all the amazing fun that can be had when you get out of your comfort zone- was when I was able to do my first cross country road trip at the age of 14. The road trip started in my home town of Green River, Wyoming and made its way almost 4,000 miles down to Blue Ridge, Georgia and back. We had 1 Suburban- 8 humans- 1 dog- 3 weeks and its 1998. That means a huge duffel of CD’s, TONS of batteries for everything, no internet, no phone- it was the middle ages comared to the luxuries of today! And yet it was a positive, impactful journey that helped me to better understand what it means to travel and embrace what you have. I have since traveled to 4 countries, 49/50 USA states (come on Alaska!), and I have covered over 60,000 miles on my road tripping journeys to date. Over time I will be posting about previous trips I have done as to help share more of my journey to this point and introduce you to friends that have been helpful and influential on my journey in life. My circle isn’t big, but it will last a lifetime.
Why? Why start a blog, why start to travel with your job, and why do it in an RV? I don’t know if there is one overriding reason why. There are many smaller reasons for all of those, but the simple answer is I can do this, I want to do this, and I think it will be a fun hobby documenting my experiences in a way that was never able to do before. Not everyone has the ability to work on the road or travel for a job. Kids, family, jobs, houses, commitments- they all attach us to our communities and give us roots. I have decided that I want a different kind of root system for my life and support system, and this way of life does that for me. My job does allow me to travel and work all over the country, which is a huge advantage for this life. I will get more into my job as the future comes and I will have sections dedicated to that as my experience in this new field grows. And as far as the RV- I can’t think of a better way to make an investment by owning the RV versus renting someplace as I travel. I do know that campgrounds and RV parks can be expensive and finding ways to minimize or avoid some of those costs will be part of learning and growing in this new experience. Plus its an Airstream, the most iconic and fabulous RV out there.
What is the goal, purpose, and expectations of this blog? My goal is to provide information, helpful hints, entertainment, and detailed experiences that can be had in the USA. I take travel assignments, usually at 13-26 week timeframes, to different areas of the USA. During those weeks I am in a location I want to find tips, helpful hints, dining reviews, experience reviews, and let you know my general thoughts and feelings on areas in the USA. Some assignments I may extend to a second contract, but I mostly want to keep moving and keep the content new so I can cover as many areas in the country as I can.
The purpose of this blog is document an alternative lifestyle. I want to learn more about the culture, the individuals, the freedom, and the restrictions this kind of life can have. It will be done, hopefully, in a fun, entertaining, and informative way. The expectation of the blog is to grow into a fun, entertaining, and informative blog. I am not concerned about the popularity or any monetary value of this blog/website. I am just out to see if I can do it, and use this hobby as a fun way to help manage time out on the road. I will be doing this RV full time living as an individual, and I am tired of wasting my life watching the newest TV show or hit movie. I want to be more focused on me and the life that I have left on our blue planet. So the expectations of the blog are kind of low at this initial outset.
This will be a new challenge to me in life on many levels. I appreciate you following and interacting with me. Below are my contacts and social platforms to date.
